When painting the interior of a house it is essential to take every measure to ensure that the home will maintain its new look for an extended period of time. Below is the step-by-step procedure that we go through at Pinnacle to achieve this goal.
STEP 1: TARPS & TAPE
Before any paint is placed on house walls, it’s important that all furniture is moved, electrical faceplates are removed, woodwork is taped off and the paint area tarped.
STEP 2: SPACKLING & CAULKING
After the paint area is tarped we are ready to seal up all cracks and joints with caulk. This protects the interior of the home from moisture problems and can also save money for heating. At the same time all nails pops, cracks and dents in the walls are filled with spackling paste, allowed to dry, then sanded down.
STEP 3: PRIMING
The next step in the paint process is to apply a primer coat to any areas of bare wood, spackle, smoke or water damage. Primer acts similar to a double-sided glue, sticking to the bare surface while holding a finish coat on top of it.
STEP 5: FINISH COATING
After the home is completely prepped we are finally ready to apply a finish coat of paint. This stage gives the home color and will make it look like new. Typically for interior jobs the ceilings are painted in a flat white, the trim in a semi-gloss, and the walls in a flat or eggshell of the desired color. Kitchens, bathrooms and surfaces with high traffic tend to be coated in higher sheen paints to allow for easy cleaning.
